On Monday February 6th, we held our very first joint Parish Council and Finance Committee meeting. At this meeting the finances of the parish were presented; these will be published in the coming weeks in the bulletin.
Fr. Mike presented the sacramental life of each parish; Baptisms, Communions, Confirmations, Weddings and Funerals. Unfortunately, the funerals outnumber the rest BUT there is life with Baptisms, Communions, Confirmations, Weddings, and a Faith Formation Program of 100 students.
The major discussion of the meeting focused on addressing the needs of the facilities; to be shared with you in the coming weeks, once bids are placed and budgets approved on the projects.
At Holy Name a lighting project was approved: to install 2 walkway pole lights on the north side of the church for purposes of safety and security. Long overdue renovation of the parish center kitchen was discussed and it received especially positive feedback. A committee will be formed.
The upkeep of the parish organs was also discussed, as with everything else, they need constant care to function properly.
At St. Francis the front and side entrance carpeting is starting to deteriorate and replacement will be explored. A new alarm system is in progress as the old system has been problematic. The carpet inside the church is in need of cleaning.
At St. Lawrence it was agreed we proceed with the work of sealing, caulking and painting the trim on the Hillman St. side of the church. All were in agreement that the church interior painting is sorely needed so we will begin the process of obtaining bids.
Fr. Mike ended the meeting with a very simple discussion of pastoral planning of our parishes and looking to the future. As time goes on you will be updated on the progress of these matters.
